Looking at the stats and effects appealed to my nerdy side, and swapping characters made me feel like a commander. It’s been a while since I played a game with this type of combat. Toggling between characters helped me understand how they worked and how they could be useful. I learned that one of my party members was good at tracking animals and disarming traps. I used them more when exploring the woods. One ally was good at hitting enemies with a huge hammer, so I made sure to switch to her at the start of each fight. The first game could have used this. Playing as just De Sardet gets boring in a game that lasts dozens of hours and has a lot of fighting. This new system makes the game more varied. It also helped me understand the characters better.
